Your investment makes you a part of a coordinated, community-wide effort that creates lasting community changes right here, where you live and work. In addition, your contribution is leveraged and combined with others then strategically invested in results-driven programs and initiatives.

Corporate Gifts and Employee Matching
Many Concho Valley companies give a corporate gift to United Way to support their community.
Some companies provide incentives to their workplace campaign with "employee matching" or incentives such as time off for a care share or double care share gift.
Sponsorships and In Kind Gifts
Event sponsorship or providing in kind goods and services help keep fundraising costs down and offers the opportunity for your business to play a leadership role in the community.
Most employees appreciate having an opportunity to invest in their community - and employee campaigns are the easiest and most effective ways to do it. Employee giving provides the major share of the annual community campaign. It is by that "sharing" that so much is accomplished. Furthermore, employees have fun...from dunk tanks to turkey bowls, companies consistently find novel ways to raise those needed dollars while building camaraderie and a team spirit.
If your company does not have a workplace campaign, the first step is to obtain the support of the key decision maker in your organization. With their backing, the payroll department can initiate the payroll deduction process. At campaign time, employees can easily choose to have a small amount deducted from their pay, and won't even miss it. Your company becomes a member of the community of investors - receiving public recognition.
There are many ways to ensure that a gift continues giving into the future, benefiting both the donor and the United Way: bequests in wills, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts and life insurance gifts. We will be happy to discuss any of these options with you and your financial planner.
Leadership giving provides an opportunity to invest more deeply in United Way. Giving at a leadership level can provide a greater range of services and cause a greater impact in our community. Leadership giving also means special public recognition, events, and networking opportunities.
Leadership giving began in 1986 under the direction of Joe Pilmer and was known as League of the Conchos. Marilyn Mertz donated an original work of art and each member received a numbered limited edition print.
1987 & 1988 trees were planted in the historic downtown area. Twenty-six trees were planted in 1987 under the direction of Beverly Stribling and Anna Wardlaw. Lee Pfluger headed the division in 1988 and planted thirty-one additional trees.
The name was changed in 1989 to Front Runner Club under the leadership of L. Gray Beck. Local artist Don Bowen created "The Front Runner", the first of a series of original bronze sculptures.
Various levels were added in 1998 under the leadership of Drex Vincent. Roger Allen of the San Angelo Chicken Farm provided a series of original works of art for the Front Runner awards. In 2007, Jim Bean began providing the first of a set of four prints of beautiful San Angelo water lilies.
The United Way de Tocqueville Society derives its name from the French historian, Alexis de Tocqueville, who toured the United States in 1831 and applauded the voluntary spirit that lives in America's heart. Members of the de Tocqueville Society provide exceptional leadership by investing $10,000 or more annually.
Public Sector Campaigns
Another important role our United Way undertakes in our community is serving as the contracted manager and fiscal agent for the following employee charitable campaigns:
- Federal employees in fourteen (14) counties in Texas, including Goodfellow Air Force Base. Also referred to as the Combined Federal Campaign
- State employees in 14 Texas counties, including Angelo State University. (Also referred to as State Employees' Charitable Campaign-SECC.)
Employees in these campaigns must designate their contributions. Contributions from these employees are forwarded to local (including United Way of the Concho Valley, our member agencies and non-United Way member agencies), state, national and international agencies as designated by the donor.
Each agency receiving contributions from these campaigns is charged a proportional administration cost.
