EVENTS

2014 Campaign Kickoff
Guns N' Hoses Baseball Game

Guns & Hoses was an event where local law enforcement and fire fighters
came together for a charity fundraiser benefitting the United Way of the
Concho Valley.  The event provided assistance by raising funds from the
general public through a fun charitable event.  Additionally, it offered the
community an opportunity to come out and show their support to the
San Angelo Police and Fire Departments.

Fort Concho staff assisted local agenacies with hosting an 1800's style
baseball game as a fun way to "warm up" for the main event!

UNITED WAY DIAMOND DRAWING

On December 4, 2014, Suddenlink hosted a reception for the United Way of the    Concho Valley diamond drawing.

The grand prize was a beautiful diamond pendant designed and donated by Mark   Priest of Legend Jewelers.  The pendant was a 14 karat yellow gold vintage       design pendant containing 110 diamonds totaling 1.64 carats of diamonds.  The     outer curled accents of diamonds formed four heart shapes which  represented     the community and all who give to the United Way.

Anastasia Kendrick, who donated through H-E-B’s work place campaign, was the   winner of the pendant.  All individuals who made a donation to the 2014 United   Way of the Concho Valley’s Annual Campaign were eligible to enter into the   drawing.

Hope for the Holidays is a community based project designed to raise emergency funds during the Christmas season for our community's neediest individuals and families who fall through the cracks in the system.  The project is organized, sponsored and led as a philanthropic effort by the San Angelo Standard-Times, Foster Communications and the United Way of the Concho Valley.

In 2014, this program received $16,079.84

These generous donations provided:

  • Appliances to elderly and disabled individuals who did not have ability to replace broken and unusable appliances.
  • Adaptive equipment for individuals with disabilities that needed the equipment to be as independent as possible.
  • Lift chairs for senior citizens that had a difficult time getting up and down.
  • Batteries for scooters so the individuals who depended on them for transportation could continue to live independently.

Since 2007, the United Way of the Concho Valley has distributed thousands of File of Life throughout the community.  This simple refrigerator magnet and personal wallet sized card is available at no charge to anyone in the fourteen county area of the Concho Valley.  This card contains vital personal medical information and is available so emergency responders can instantly know the medical history of a patient.  The card owner has increased peace of mind because they know they can receive prompt and quality care because of the information that is readily available.
